What Causes Painful Intercourse?

I am a 57 yo female in generally excellent health. Last GYN exam was 8/17/16 and everything looked fine. Of late intercourse was very painful. I had lube but it still hurt. I bought Replens at the store and when I went to insert it with application, found the process painful and I noticed blood on the applicator...is this normal? My GYN is off today but I will call tomorrow to get appt . Wanted your opinion on what may be wrong

Hi,

Dryness & thinning of the vagina after menopause is mostly the cause of dyspareunia (painful sex) after menopause.

The pain & bleeding you have can be from above postmenopausal changes you should take rest,/avoid sex/introducing applicator.

Till you see your doctor, as it is also important to exclude other more concerning the causes of the problem.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
