Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I m a 21 year old sexually active female. in the last number of weeks sex has been painful, particularly penetration. I had a full pelvic exam by my GP, had a swab done and have no underlying problems, such as STIs, BV, yeast infection UTI etc. and i am otherwise healthy. After doing a lot of reading i believe I could have vestibulodynia. Do you think this is a possibility and if this were the case what is the usual outcome. do you think treating this with instillagel would be appropriate?
Since the infection is ruled out. One possible cause is vestibulodynia. You haven't mentioned your history whether only sexual intercourse would cause pain in vagina. Vestibulodynia would cause pain when wearing tight clothing. Pain when sitting down for a long period.
Also I want to know whether you have 2ry dismenorrhoea also. If so endometriosis is also a possibility. For vestibulodynia I usually give anesthetic gel. Pelvic muscle relaxing exercises and vaginal dilators also helpful in relieving the pain. This condition would go away on their own in few months time. Since the history is inadequate it is better to come with the details I mentioned also.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. K.r.w.m.manori Karunathilaka
