What Causes Painful Knot On Ankles Of Child?

My 8 year old son just came to me complaining of a knot on the front of both his ankles. Upon examining his feet, I found a quarter size, somewhat firm bump/knot on the front of BOTH ankles. He plays sports and is your tulypical highly active 8 year old boy. He says they hurt when you touch them but otherwise no continuous pain. Besides ganglionic cysts I have found no other possibilities. Any thoughts?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

The symptoms of your child seem to be related to ganglion cyst.
Ganglion cysts are noncancerous lumps that most commonly develop along the tendons or joints of the wrists or hands.
Ganglion cysts are typically round or oval and are filled with a jellylike fluid.
Ganglion cysts can be painful if they press on a nearby nerve.
I suggest using anti inflammatory medications such as Acetaminophen to relieve the pain.
I also suggest using cold compresses for local application.

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
