What Causes Painful Light Brown Liquid From Ear?

I had gone into the cold weather with my head wet about a week ago. My ear has hurt since and it has become very painful. Today it has started to drain and the liquid is light brown and it burns when it comes out of my ear. I have tried heat and it makes it worse. I have tried taking pseudophed, but my ear still hurts and at times it sounds like there is water in it rattling around. I am worried. Can you help.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of painful light brown liquid from ear which is due to ear infection and it could be due to foreign body penetration in ear. Need not to worry about it. It is not contagious. I would suggest you to visit ENT specialist once and get evaluated and start treatment after proper prescription. Get all the lab tests done and examination with otoscope. You should take antibiotic Ciprofloxacin along with Ibuprofen. Try to avoid excessive use of mobile and try to avoid pricking it with any sharp object. You should avoid sleeping on this side. You should maintain hygiene of area. You should put Otogesic ear drops 2-3 times a day. You should take proper rest.
