What Causes Painful Lump Below Ribcage Post Injury?

Three months ago I fell down a short flight of stairs. Afterwards I laid on my back and felt my ribs to see if anything was out of the ordinary. I noticed a soft, quarter sized lump just below my rib cage on my left side. It is now ten times that size and has hardened. It is painful when pressed on gently. I am also having pain intermittently under my rib cage on the left side only. The pain sometimes radiates back to my shoulder blade or forwards towards pectoral muscle. I do.not know if the lump.was there before my fall, but the pain was not. I am greatly alarmed by the rapid growth of this lump.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Most likely hematoma following injury involving the subcutaneous region.

Primary guidelines
- ice application 3 times a day
- prescription of antibiotics as cefadroxil or else anti-inflammatory medicines as serratiopeptidase or else for better resolution
- regular consulting with your doctor for evaluation of size reduction and future need of ultrasound of soft tissue with or without incision and drainage requirement in non-responsive cases.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
