I have a lump on my shoulder that appears to be larger and spreading down my back. I am unable to raise that arm up but so far and have to be careful when working least I do something that causes pain. It is the arm that I use in work and writing. What do you think it could be?
Hello and welcome to HCM, A lump on the shoulder is most probably due to soft tissue swelling. A clinical assessment, imaging of the site and aspiration cytology of the lesion is required. Imaging or radiological examination of the site will help to know the probable site and extent of the swelling. Aspiration of the swelling involves aspiration of cellular material from the swelling with a needle, spreading on a glass slide and staining with appropriate stain. The stained cells are examined under the microscope. This investigation determines the site of the lesion, its character and thus its treatment can be planned. Consult your primary healthcare provider for further work up.
