My right collarbone is painful, and I have a swollen lump under it. I was diaganosed with shingles, Sunday. I m taking Valtrex. I m 65 yrs old. The pain is running from my right top shoulder, up right side of neck, with the collarbone, being the most sore.
Hi ! Good morning. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.
Shingles is a viral infection sometimes causing much disability due to severe pain. If I were your doctor, I would add an anti inflammatory along with a proton pump inhibitor drug for a symptomatic relief, in addition to the Valtrex. However, the swollen lump under your collar bone could be a separate entity and I would go for a general physical examination of yours to rule out any other associated problem causing this lump under your collar bone. If need be, I would also advise you for an ultrasound/CT abdomen, an ultrasound of the testes, and an X ray chest. If all are inconclusive, I would refer you to a general surgeon/Pathologist for consideration of FNAC (fine needle aspiration cytology) of the lump under your collar bone.
I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.
Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. I wish you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
