My boyfriend has had a large lump on his chest between his nipples for years as far as he has known, lately it s been painful, I was examining it today, I gave it a slight squeeze and a lot of yellow/white smelly pus lets coming out out of different parts of it. Is it something to worry about?

Hi,

Thanks for your question.

After going through your question, I I can understand your concern.

There is likely possibility of chest wall abscess in your boy friend's case.

As you have mentioned it is there for years there may be possibility of -
1) Lump of underlying tissues like skin, muscle which got infected now.
2) Abscess originated from deeper tissues like ribs.

I would like to advise you -
1) Consult your doctor for detailed clinical Examination.
2) There may be need for -
- Chest xray.
- Complete blood count.
- ESR.
3) It may required surgical drainage and pus to be send for culture and sensitivity.
4) Oral or Intravenous antibiotic may help.

Hope this helps you, if so do vote as helpful.
