What Causes Painful Lymph Nodes In The Armpits?

Why do my lymph nodes in both armpits hurt for periods of time each day, but not all the time? I may have mild infection from a broken molar root that will be pulled 4/07/17. So, I got dentist to prescribe amoxicillin until then. Started Monday afternoon course, but feeling in arm pits continues. Age 68, female. Good health, but waiting to redo mammo that showed something last yr. left arm now tight. Due to worry? Unsure if I should get blood pressure checked at local pharmacy.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

It looks like an enlarged lymphatic vessel. A lymph node in the armpit might have got obstructed and lead to this. Another possibility is an enlarged vein with a clot inside.

I prefer the color Doppler of the affected upper limb and proceed according to the report.

Please consult a General surgeon or Vascular surgeon, get examined clinically and proceed accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein,
General Surgeon
