What Causes Painful Menstruation Along With Heavy Vaginal Bleeding?

Hello. I am a 54 year old woman, nearing menopause. My menstrual period this month and one previous has been very painful and the bleeding is intense. I am wearing 2 pads at a time and going through them every hour. The cramps are in the lower front of my pelvis and in my lower back, generally where I have cramps, just more painful.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.

Hypermenorrhea can be a result of a hormonal imbalance, which is expected as you are soon approaching menopause. I would not worry too much about it, but it would be better to report to your doctor who will assist you through your menopause.

Best wishes.
