What Causes Painful Muscle Tension And Hot Feeling?

I am a 45 year old male. I have an alcohol problem in that drink too much wine. I only drink in the evening with a meal but often well above recommended levels, indeed most nights. For some months now I have had a "tension" in my neck and jaw area. There are no lunps nor anything visible in my throat but back and side of neck often feels "hot" and mildly painful like muscle tension. I also frequently cough phlegm in morning or when it is cold and I wonder if alcohol is affecting salivary glands? Thanks for any help.
