What Causes Painful Red Rashes Around Belly Button In A Baby?

My 4 yr old daughter has a red bumpy rash inside her belly button and extends about an inch around her belly button. She says it s painful. It was not there last night but was there when she woke up this morning. Also, she didn t wear anything with a buckle this week so it s not a nickel allergy. Just wondering if this sounds like something of concern or just a rash from something.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

The symptoms seem to be related to a diaper rash.
The best treatment for diaper rash is to keep your baby's skin as clean and dry as possible.
If your baby's diaper rash persists despite home treatment, you may use a mild hydrocortisone (steroid) cream.

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
