What Causes Painful, Sensitive And Tender Area On Upper Stomach?

I have a very sensitive area on my upper right stomach area. It is very very tender to touch. There is no visible indicators of anything. Occasionally there is a very sharp pain. I had it looked at be a doctor who said it wasn t shingles. I have had it for about 3 weeks. Any idea what this might be and how I could relieve the pain.

Hi,

Based on the history you seem to be suffering from post-herpetic neuralgia. It is a common complication of shingles (herpes zoster virus). The condition affects nerve fibers and skin, causing burning pain that lasts long after the rash and blisters of shingles disappear. I advise you to take gabapentin or pregablin for the symptomatic relief of pain. Their common side effects include drowsiness, confusion, unsteadiness and swelling in the feet.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
