What Causes Painful Shoulder?

Hi, I am having extreme pain in my right shoulder. It gets worse when I exercise. Today, even a walk moving my arms was very painful. When elevated at home as it is now, I feel much better. Possible rotator cuff damage or pulled muscle? What do you recommend? Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear thanks for the question.

It could be both rotator cuff as well as muscle pull. If I were your doctor I would have suspected rotator cuff injury as pain is relieved on elevation of limb.

I always advise my patients to give rest to the arm and take pain killers (zerodol plus or cipzox or combiflam or sumo) for 2 days.this treatment takes care of muscle and cuff related pain. Majority of patients recover in few days.

If no improvement I advise a x ray of shoulder joint to rule out involvement of bone or ligaments. And visit an orthopaedic expert. He may advise immobilisation and physiotherapy.

I hope I have clarified your queries. Please write for follow up queries. I wish you rapid recovery. Kindly rate this reply. Thank you
