Hi doctors, Last Monday night I broke into a pretty good fever over night, suffering broken sleep etc. Tuesday I was wiped out, but the fever appeared to have broken largely - but started to get a sore throat. Initially I figured this was Just a sore throat but since then it s got progressively worse - to the point where the right hand side of my throat is now so swollen it s nearly reaching the epiglottis (sp?). I m finding it incredibly tough to swallow anything at all, even water and have only eaten twice since Tuesday night. I saw my Dr on Friday afternoon, who gave no real diagnosis, but stated that the swelling was impressive and that it looked like antibiotics would be worth a go - prescribing a 7 day course of penicillin. I m now approx half way through the course, but whilst some of the pain has abated, the swelling continues to stay...it has now taken a small distinct lump form that vaguely resembles a wart. Other side effects are an almost barotrauma like pain below my back teeth, some ear discomfort and my scalp feels as though I ve cut it - that kind of very tender feeling (there s no damage up there!) I don t *think* I have a fever any more (temp is consistent around 37.4 in the day) but I haven t slept well since last Monday and have consistently had night sweats. Any thoughts on next steps? Is it possible that the penicillin simply hasn t had time to work it s magic, or does the fact it hasn t impacted three days into a 7 day regime indicate it s not going to? many thanks Rob
