What Causes Painful Swelling And Redness In Earlobe After Ear Piercing?

My son had 1 earlobe pierced 2 days ago. The redness went after 6 hours and the pain went after only 1 hour.
The lobe has now swelled up a lot today so much so that it's beginning to suck in the ball of the stud. We have followed the instructions given which is to use the solution provided to clean it 3 times per day and turn the stud 180 degrees to the left the 180 back to the right 3 times per day. Not sure why suddenly it has swollen up after 2 days. No discharge, a little dried blood on the stud at the back.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Kindly remove the stud. instead you can use small sticks of small branches of. neem. it acts as an antiseptic.
Since the earlobe has swollen it indicates inflammation and infection. The following medications can be helpful after consulting a physician.
1. Tablet diclofenac 50 mg once a day for three days.
2. Tablet Amoxycillin 500mg 3 times a day for 3 days if he is not allergic to it.
3. Soframycin or any antibacterial cream to be applied on the site of swelling.

Regards,
Dr.Riyanka
