What Causes Painful Swelling In The Knee?

My son is 47 years old and has a swollen elbow on his left side along with a swollen knee and ankle on the left side that is very painful. He was bitten by a spider about 6 months ago and was on antibiotics for a short time after that. This issue started about 6 weeks ago.

Hi,

Painful swelling in the joints particularly knee or ankle can be due to:

Arthritis, neuropathy trauma gout from uric acid, High weight, etc.

I don't know precisely about the general history of the patient to arrive at a conclusion. Still, I feel there are strong chances of gout.

I suggest you either send full details of the problem duration, any drug history or a visit to the nearby hospital and have a general examination specifically by a neurologist and orthopaedic surgeon.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
