Hello and welcome to HCM,
A swollen, red and painful ball of foot could be due to soft tissue trauma.
Trauma to the ball of foot can lead to injury to soft tissue of the foot and thus the pain.
You may take pain killer to control the pain.
Hot fomentation will also help in relieving pain and redness.
If the swelling, redness and pain do not disappear after few days, you may have to consult your primary healthcare provider.

Thanks and take care
