Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
For years I've had a swelling inside my tongue. It gets bigger and smaller and it gets more painful the more swollen it gets. When it gets really swollen the surface of my tongue above the swelling gets bluish/purplish. Alcohol seems to make it worse. When it gets very big it usually seems to slightly burst and I have small amounts of blood seeping through on the surface of my tongue. I had an MRI on it years ago and all they said was it not cancerous and left it at that. It's really bothering me now and I want to get it sorted. Thanks in advance
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of painful swelling on the tongue which is mainly because of discoid type of lesions, friction of tongue with teeth and it is due to continue irritation and due to systemic pathology.
Need not to worry. I would suggest you to use tongue scraper very gently to remove bacterial debris attached to tongue. You should visit dentist once and get scrapping from tongue to get it biopsied so that exact diagnosis can be made out. These swellings can be treated with topical and intralesional steroids such as cortisone. You can start with Immunosuppressive drugs such as Azathioprine Which is very effective to boost immune system of body. Maintain basic hygiene of oral cavity by brushing and flossing daily. Hope your concern has been resolved.
