What Causes Painful Urination?

I have been having burning/irritation on urination , affecting the Perineum area only, for the past few years. I visited my Gynaecologist, who prescribed oestrogen pessaries, which helped for awhile, but not so now. I had a hysterectomy in 2005 due to HPV , and was told the histology came back as an Endometrioma .....I had suffered from Endometriosis for many years and was treated for same by Laser surgery. I am wondering if you can give me some idea what would be causing this irritation on urination, and some advice on treatment, please?

Hi,

Such burning in the perineal area upon urination could be due to:
- Itching following dryness of the area due to ageing. This needs moisturizer / estrogen creme
- fungal infection, mostly accompanied by white discharge, sex with somebody infected. This needs specific treatment
- Irritation due to tight fitting undergarments / sexual act
- Urinary tract infection. This needs diagnosis and treatment.
I don't think it's related to endometriosis.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
