What Causes Painfully Swollen Red Eye Post Intake Of Aleve?

I took 2 Aleve last night with a full glass of water about 3 hours before I went to bed. About 1 1/2 hours later my right eye was hurting and it was red in the right corner. When I got up this morning my entire face was swollen, right eye still hurting and red. The swelling is now gone, the redness and pain in my right eye are lessening and clearing up. Is this a normal reaction and should I be worried? I do know that I don t plan on ever taking it again. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

We will try to help you in the best way possible. First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, it can be an allergic reaction to the medicine However it can be cellulitis or soft tissue swelling around eye or orbit so needs to be evaluated if persist or increase in size.

Meanwhile, other analgesics like Acetaminophen can be used. In future caution should be taken before using any other anti-inflammatory drugs.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
