Hello and welcome to HCM, A painless lump on lower back could be a soft tissue swelling. Besides imaging studies, an aspiration cytology of the lesion is required. Aspiration cytology is a safe office procedure wherein a needle is inserted into the swelling, cells are aspirated, spread on a slide and stained with appropriate stains. The stained cells are studied microscopically to know the site of origin and nature of the lesion. The lesion can be managed thereafter. Consult your primary healthcare provider for clinical assessment and thus management.
