What Causes Palpitation And Shortness Of Breath?

My daughter who is 18 and otherwise healthy has within the past week experienced heart skips, racing, shortness of breath, chest pain, fatigue, weakness and numbness and ache in the left arm. Took her to ER, had chest xray, ekg, bloodwork--all showing normal results. Echocardiogram was suggested by ER but primary dr felt it would show anything since other tests were normal. There has not been any unusual stress excecess caffeine or any other issues causing stress. I am very concerned. Could this be a blockage or infection of the heart or possibly a lung issue causing the heart problems?

hello thanks for posting here.
going by what you described primarily looks like a panic attack. EKG is not required at this point of time. once an anxiety factor is ruled out, and if she has similar complaints again then an EKG would be advisable l. another possibility is that she has got arrhythmias which means irregular fast heart beats. these can lead to palpitations, shortness of breath, fatigue etc. A blockage in the heart arteries seem unlikely in view of her young age. this may be due to some electric impulse conduction problems in the heart which can lead to fast heart beats. . also get her thyroid function tests done because thyroid abnormalities can cause palpitations and shortness of breath.
wishing you good health
