What Causes Palpitations And Anxiety While On Medication For Hypothyroidism?
Hi Dr. I have been diagnosed with hypthyrodism since 18 years and I am now on 800 per week dosage. My Tsh is now 0.5 and I felt palpitation, anxiety, tension. I withrew from taking the pill for 5 days as I am better at TSH 3 or 3.5. I will now start at 750 per week. But is it wrong to withdraw for few days and then restart slowly with 50 then 100 a day until you reach 750 per week.? Thank you. Yvette (62 years old lady)
Since you are suffering from hypothyroidism for the last 18 years the body gets accustomed to the condition, the dosages and all.
Manipulating the dosages of any hormones is to be done by the Doctor concerned as he can coordinate with the blood reports with all the investigations.
Anxiety, palpitations can be due to its own causes, anxiety as you say or an actual cardiac problem. Hence I would advise you to take an opinion of a Cardiologist to watch for any cardiac issues.
If these are ruled out then the obvious cause can be due to anxiety which can be tackled well with anxiolytic medications needing a prescription.
If the dosages need to be adjusted, let it be done by your Doctor and not by yourself.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
