Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi there. I am a 31 year old female, 5 7 and 180 lb. I just had the sensation of my heart flopping around in my chest for maybe 30 seconds. I felt as if my breathing had changed somehow, but I was not panting or hyperventilating. I tried to call for my husband, but I could not. Afterward, an odd sensation lingered in my upper torso and arms. My heart rate was normal. There was no pain, but it was one of the scariest things. Now I am scared to go to bed. The only history that I think is relevant is a twice repaired patent ductus arteriosis as an infant. And I am also taking natural progesterone cream to balance my hormones. Is this likely just an arrhythmia that can be checked at my doctor s office tomorrow? I don t think I just had a heart attack, but I am worried.
In the context of the history, you said the possibility of a mal-rhythm of the heart could not be ruled out. We generally ask an urgent Ecg for such patients. However once the episode is off, there are good chances that on the spot ECG would miss such episodes on record so we then recommend a 24 hours holter monitor which would record your heart activity for 24 hours and can catch any time the problem occurs.
I am not scaring you as this might well be a benign thing to happen. However, seeing a cardiologist especially as you had already operation on your heart is compulsory.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman
