What Causes Palpitations While On Prednisone And Toprol?

Hello, I had hand surgery 2 months ago. My surgeon prescribed me a 12 day prednisone pack for pain & swelling. I started my pack today. I took my 1 dose after dinner and I feel my heart pounding/racing. I take Toprol 50mg a day for high blood pressure. should I continue with the before bed 2 pills?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Metoprolol lowers both high blood pressure and cardiac beats. If you feel Prednisone bothers you, take it once daily and take also Ibuprofen to relieve pain and swelling. Be careful not to lift your hand too much and don't carry heavy things with it.
