What Causes Palpitations While On Medication For Hypertension?
My daughter, age 35,5 3 , 150 lbs, went to doctor last Friday was told her blood pressure was high 12?/110. Dr. ave her blood pressure meds and her heart has been racing ever since. According to her FitBit her pulse was 122 most of the night while she slept. She went to work and her pulse tonight is 110, isn t that still too high?
Based on the history you have shared, some blood pressure medication like calcium channel blockers or diuretics can cause tachycardia or fast heartbeat.
She can have her medication reviewed and be put on beta blockers and ACE inhibitors instead if no contraindications. More over renal function tests, electrolytes as well as thyroid functions may be needed to be checked.
Some other rare endocrine causes may also cause such symptoms and should also be ruled out by a detailed cardiologist and endocrinologist review.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin
