What Causes Panic And Breathlessness During Sleep?

Hello, I have been waking up lately in a panic not knowing where I am or who is around me. I am a cop so I find myself reaching for my gun when this happens and someone wakes me up. It lasts a couple of seconds and I find myself freaking out and can hardly breath. What is wrong with me

this is a nightmare.it occurs during RAPID EYE MOVEMENT SLEEP.
this is a common problem.a nigtmare may give rise to breathlesness,panic attack,high bp,etc due to sympathetic surge.
i would advise you to take low dose alprazolam every night now.
if the symptom still persists,consult a psychiatrist.
