What Causes Panic Attacks?

Hello , In the past year I have suffered with 3 panic attacks , that where mild/moderate . I have kept a note of there times and it seams to be on the second menstral cycle (every other month) , mid way through my cycle ( around day 15-20) . I recently went and had extensive blood tests taken as I think that my panic attacks can be hormone related . The results have come back from the Lab and it shows that my White blood cell count (12.13 ) and my neutrophils ( 78.9%9.57) are flaged in red. I have to wait 2 weeks before I can see the doctor to explain these to me. But could this be the cause of my attacks or is this caused by my panic attacks ? I am of Mediterranean origin and so I wondered if this would have something to do with it. I hope you can help explain and stop my worry.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi,
Welcome to HCM
firstly, I need to understand the symptoms that your are reffering to as panic attacks, or is it diagnosed by a doctor.
Secondly, panic attacks classically are not known to have any specific etiology, therfore it appears to be unrelated to your hormonal changes.
However, the stress that the menstrual disturbances has caused, perhaps may cause secondary depression- anxiety like problem.
In any case, I would suggest you to see a psychiatrist and discuss your doubts, as a detailed examination and study of symptoms would be essential before diagnosing or starting any medications.
The blood counts are marginally increased, suggests a possible infection, although needs to be correlated with clinical symptoms such as fever, etc., but unrelated to panic attacks.
Again being of Mediterranean origin is unrelated to panic attack.

welcome for further suggestions
