What Causes Passing Of Green Diarrhea Along With Black Specs?

I came back from Mexico on Sunday. I have had diarrhea for 5 days now. Went to my dr and she took a stool sample and put me on clear liquids. She didn t want to treat me yet. My diarrhea is green and has black specs in it. Should I go to the ER. The clear liquids go right thru me and I am running a temp of 102.2 f. 6 yrs ago I had a perforated bowel.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

This suggests acute gastro enteritis. Mostly these are viral, and need only supportive treatment with anti-pyretics and fluids to prevent dehydration. If you are otherwise well, no need to worry now. take paracetamol for fever, and drink fluids like ORS to prevent dehydration.

If fever is not coming down in 48 hours, stool becomes blood stained or contains mucus, or diarrhea persists beyond 5 days, kindly get back to your doctor, as in this case we may need antibiotics too.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
