What Causes Penile Bleeding After Radiation Treatment For Prostate Cancer?

In February I completed 44 treatments of radiation for prostate cancer. My last PSA was .10. I also have a supra pubic Cather as my only means of voiding urine. Recently I have noticed drops of blood coming from my penis. Over the last 7 year I have also had my urethra tube cleaned out several times due to blockage. What could be causing the blood?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, it can be hemorrhagic cystitis after radiation exposure or urinary tract infection and should be evaluated by urinalysis and ultrasound urinary bladder as well as a urologist consultation should be sought again. Meanwhile keep good water intake and if decrease in urinary output occurs immediate nearby health facility ER should be consulted. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
