What Causes Period Like Cramps And Nausea?

Hi there, I am 34+2 weeks pregnant. Last Thursday I went in to hospital as they thought my waters had started to go and I was more dilated than they would like me to be at that stage. I also had a urine infection which ive been taking antibiotics for, finishing the course today. Since yesterday evening I have been extreamly nauseas as well as being sick and have terrible period type cramps that seem to come and go? Can you advise me wether this is normal for this stage in pregnancy?

Dear Madam,

This is not a good sign. The period like pains you are getting which are coming and going are more likely to be labour pains. Please rush to the maternity ward and report to your Obstetrician. You may be given some uterine relaxants to calm down the uterus. Simultaneously you may be given Steroid injections to mature the baby's lungs so that even if you deliver 2 days after the steroid injections, baby will have better chance to survive.

Your premature labour could be secondary to the urinary infection you had.

Please report to the Obstetrician ASAP.
