What Causes Persistent Blockage In Ears Despite Taking Amoxicillin For Otitis Media?

Dear Doctor, I have otitis media for 3 weeks now, no pain but blocked ears. Took antibiotics ( amoxicillin ) but I still feel the blockage in my ears, especially the left one. I also got reparil dragees but have not yet taken them. Do you think it may help? Thank you. Tamas

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain in case if you have a history of otitis media that is an infection of the ear, clogged feeling in ear seems to be due to fluid accumulation behind the eardrum along with blocked eustachian tubes..
Along with antibiotics you also need to take oral as well as nasal decongestants and do steam inhalations..
In case if it still does not resolve consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Otoscopy can help..In case if there is fluid accumulation in ear and not resolving with medication the physician can do surgical drainage of fluid by putting a small incision in the eardrum..
As far as Reparil Dragees is concerned, it contains a compound known as Aescin and is used in other conditions related to cardiovascular system like venous insufficiency and is not needed in this case..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
