What Causes Persistent Blocked Nose And Headaches Despite Taking Z-pak?

I have been on the Z-pack for 5 days, today being my last dose for a sinus infection. My symptoms have remained the same since I started, and even a bit worse now. Stuffy nose, headache, left ear is extremely plugged interfering with hearing and I have had a sore throat as well for over a week, with the back of my tongue feeling swollen and painful. Should I see my DR for a stronger Rx or continue to wait it out for the z-pack to kick in? I know it works in your system for up to a week after the last dose, but I feel I should have some improvement at this point, 5 days into the antibiotic. Please advise! I m sick of being sick! Thank you :)

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of persistent blocked nose and headaches despite taking Z-pak which seems to be due to nasal polyp, nasal sinus infection, mucus blockage and due to rhinosinusitis. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should go nasal sinus X-ray and get it examined and start treatment after proper diagnosis. You should do nasal saline rinses. You should take steam inhalation. Symptoms of itchiness after injection can happen many a times. You should take antiallergic medication such as Levocetirizine. Take proper course of antibiotic such as Levofloxacin along with mucolytic agents.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
