Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
The area above my upper lip burns constantly. It has been going on for three days. I have not come in contact with a chemical or changed any of my detergents or cosmetics. I have also not eaten any thing strange. It is not red and there is not a rash of any kind. I only drink water.
As per your query persistent burning in upper lip is mainly because of sun burn ( photoallergy )or dehydration. Allergic reaction to certain food substance could be the reason. I would suggest you to drink plenty of water , apply lip balm containing SPF 15 to prevent it from further exposure of UV rays of sun , Take antihistamine drug like benadryl and give cold compresses several times a day . Apply topical steroidal ointment on it. If condition doesn't get better in 2-3 days then consult dermatologist for proper examination . Sometimes lip burning happens due to nerve dysfunction or infection. In case of infection doctor may prescribe antibiotics along with anti inflammatory . Take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain and burning sensation.
Hope your concern has been resolved, Get Well Soon. Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
