What Causes Persistent Cough Along With Pain And Soreness In Throat?

Hi, I have had a continual cough for many months now. I have had 2 different types of antibiotics which relieved but it returns with a fortnight. My throat is painfully sore at the onset but the cough is relentless. My throat and airways feel raw from coughing. It's nearly impossible to sleep due to the cough. The cough itself is dry (no phlemn) and fells to come from the upper chest area as apposed to lower lung.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query cough along with pain and soreness in throat query could be because of strep throat, viral pharyngitis, and allergic rhinitis. It could be due to upper respiratory tract infection. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination. You should take combination of antibiotics along with antihistamine drugs. Doctor may order throat swab test , viral culture test and blood test. You should start treatment after proper diagnosis. For now do warm saline gargles and take steam to relieve congestion. You should take cough expectorants. Get X-RAY chest done along with pulmonary functions tests done to known about exact extent and cause of infection.
