What Causes Persistent Cough And Congestion Leading To Chest Pain?
Hello My 19 year old daughter hasn t been feeling well for the past 6-8 weeks. She is coughing a lot which cause chest pain and her ribs to hurt. She sometimes coughs up phlegm which is sometimes clear or yellow tinged. She s been to the family doctor twice and goes back the 18th or 19th. Doctor thought she may of had bronchitis or asthma sent her home with antibiotics and a rescue inhaler, which she used a few times a day. On a return visit she was sent home with steroids and a controlled inhaler to use twice a day. Chest x-rays were ordered and came back okay/clear. She uses the controlled inhaler twice a day as prescribed and still needs to use the rescuer a couple times a day. She was diagnosed with congenital adrenal hyperplasia non classical at the age of 6/7 and takes cortef twice a day-and earlier this years was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and on meds for that. Besides the above mentioned symptoms she says she always tired especially since the hypothyroid diagnoses. She hasn t received a flu shot yet as she s been feeling sick the past 2 months or so. Any ideas what her problem might be? No fever or chills.
Understanding your concern. As per your query your daughter have symptoms of persistent cough and congestion leading to chest pain which could be due to allergic bronchitis, chronic pulmonary disease, or tuberculosis and it could be due to underlying systemic pathology. Need not to worry. Take steam inhalation as well. You should take cough expectorants. I would suggest you to visit pulmonologist once and get chest X-ray done. Go for blood and sputum test first and get it examined. Start treatment after proper diagnosis. I would suggest you to take combination of antihistamine and antibiotic drugs . You should take antihistamine such as Benadryl or Chlorpheniramine along with Amoxicillin. Take proper course of antibiotics. You should take combination of anti allergic and antihistamine medications for immediate relief. Go for pulmonary function tests as well. Sip on warm water. Avoid cold drinks.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
