What Causes Persistent Cough And Difficulty In Swallowing?

I have had to clear my throat for all my life and am now 67. For three years I have coughed and coughed with no end in sight and have tried everything. I have barretts disease and am now starting to have trouble swallowing. I had surgery on a hyenal hernia in my esopogus 5 years ago. what is this

Hi I can understand your concern....

You had hiatus hernia , so from that developed acid reflux and chronic acid reflux disease leads you to development of barret esophagus by irritation from acid ....

Any way you have operated for hiatus hernia repair. ...

Just now try to avoid more irritation of esophagus. ...
Omeprazole capsule taken for reducing acidity ....
Meanwhile avoid heavy and spicy meal ..
Sleep two hour after taking meal ....
Avoid smoking ....
Head elevation while sleeping ....

For your barret esophagus constant surveillance needed. .. .
If no dysplasia in endoscopy than at every three year endoscopy needed. ..
If neeeded than endoscopic resection of mucosa done ....

Laser therapy also available for it. ..

Treatment depend on your subsequent endoscopy report ...
Your cough is by acid reflux ....

If you provide your endoscopy report than further guidance can given ...
