What Causes Persistent Cough And Itching On The Throat?

I have a persistent cough that is triggered by itchiness on the throat. The itchiness feels like needles are pricking my throat. The cough sometimes chokes me. It comes every time am revocering from a cold/flu and lasts for more than 4 weeks each time. I have been on steroids to manage it, but the doctor currently gave me antihistamins. But once I finish the antihistamins the cough comes back and can get quite severe. Please help.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello welcome to the health care magic

According to history repeated congestive symptoms can be from allergic upper respiratory tract infection

You should consult otorhinolaryngologist or allergy specialist for your work up

Auscultation, Ent examination, CBC with AEC count should be done

Allergic testing like patch test etc will be able to identify allergen if allergy is the problem

For allergy loratidine can be prescribed for 10 days

Hope this will help you

Consult otorhinolaryngologist and than if needed allergy specialist to discuss these issues

Get back with more questions if having further query
