MY FATHER IS HAVING SORE THROAT SINCE 2 WEEKS ALREADY HE HAS TAKEN AZITHROMYCIN COURSE,ANTI COUGH BUT STILL THERE IS HOARSENESS ,AGE 65,SMOKER,64 KG WT,HYPERTENSIVE.PREVIOUS SUCH EPISODES OF PERSISTING COUGH AND HOARSENESS.FAMILY HISTORY OF CA ESOPHAGUS AND LARYNX.
Persistent cough with hoarseness is due to severe upper respiratory tract infection and poor immunity of body. Avoid cigarette smoking. Start with course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications. Avoid giving cold beverages. You should take mast cell stabilizers to prevent from infection. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist without any delay . Doctor may order blood test , throat swab test or virus culture test. You should get an x ray of the chest. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics amoxicillin at least for 10 days along with mucolytic agents. Go for complete blood count. You should avoid hot, sharp and spicy foods. For now do warm saline rinses , take rest.
