What Causes Persistent Crackling Sound In Left Ear?

Hi, I have had a creaking sound in my left ear for the past month or so. I thought it was cold related but my cold has gone and the sound hasn't. I went to the doctors during the cold and he looked and said my ears were clear and no sign of infection and that it should go away when my cold went. Do you know what this could be? Thanks

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns.

As per your complain crackling sound in ear can be due to causes that can be related to ear while it can also be due to problems related to jaw joint that can also be elicited as crackling sound in ears..
It can be due to Eustachian tube dysfunction that can be due to blockage of Eustachian tube..
But in case if it is not due to it other cause can be Temporomandibular joint disorder also known as TMJ or TMD.
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation can help in diagnosis and he can do an otoscopic examination of the ear and also advise an Orthopantomogram of the jaw..
In case if it is due to Eustachian tube you can be advised antibiotics and decongestants oral as well as nasal sprays..
In case if it is TMJ you will be referred to a dentist and get evaluated and he can advise you muscle relaxants, physiotherapy and mouth guards..
In very few conditions surgical treatment can be advised..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
