What Causes Persistent Deep Pain In Lower Left Leg?

Hi my husband has had a deep bad pain in front Lowe left leg for three days. But we could not see anything. And it is getting worse so I ask to see it again. It is now swollen, red, hot and tender to the touch. I suggested we go to the hospital. But just getting him to a Dr. Is like pulling teeth. I m concerned and could use some input. Thank you Wendy Pope E-mail is. YYYY@YYYY

Hi and welcome to ehealthdesk
I'm Dr. Taimur and I will be addressing your health concerns.
I have read your question and understand your concern.
Pain in the lower leg could be due to a number of reasons and it will be helpful if you can give me the answers to following questions.
1. Is your husband bed ridden for more than a week?
2. Is he using some medications?
3. Did he had any major surgery recently?
4. Does he has any fever associated with the leg symptoms?

but the sign and symptoms you narrated points towards deep vein thrombosis ( clotting of blood inside the deep veins) leading to pain, tenderness and swelling of the affected limb. In my patients I usually go for the Venous Doppler ultrasound of lower limbs, Full blood counts, PT/APTT, INR. Make your husband understand that the illness may be a serious one so it will be better to seek out some help. My advice will be to consult a Medical Specialist and get your husband properly examined and investigated. As the small clots ( thrombi) can dislodge from the legs and can lead to fatal complications if it is what I'm suspecting.
I hope this might be of some help, if you have any query feel free to ask me any time.
Thanks.
Dr. Taimur
