What Causes Persistent Discomfort On The Left Side Of The Body?

I have had no specific injury to my left and yet for the past two weeks or so I have not been able to lift it. Especially when lying on my back, I can lift it only 1-2 inches. Pretty much the same on my side. Very painful to lift to put on a foot stool, etc. This showed up very suddenly. Fine one day, couldn t move it the next day. The first day I had difficult walking. I had to siddle the first few steps because I could not lift it to move forward. It has not been like that again. But the lifting issue is not improving at all.
