What Causes Persistent Dizziness With Vertigo Like Symptoms?

I have been dizzy for months, its not getting better, sometimes there is blackness then I come out of it, without losing total consciousness. Sitting, as I am now, its still going on, standing, walking. I was told it was an inner ear infection, I don't believe that it is, not with it lasting this long, as with vertigo. This has happened everyday as I said for the months. I got tabs for dizziness 3 so far and its not helping.
