Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your query, you have symptoms of persistent dry cough along with a metallic smell which is due to persistent upper respiratory tract infection leading to infection of sinuses as well. It could be due to the disturbance in olfactory nerve sensation as well.

I would suggest you visit pulmonologist once and get it examined. You should get pulmonary function tests and X-ray para-nasal sinus done to find out the exact level of infection and start taking the combination of antibiotic along with anti-inflammatory medicines.

Take zinc supplements and apply mist humidifiers in the room. You should take cough expectorants and do warm saline rinses 4 to 5 times a day.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
