What Causes Persistent Fever And Loss Of Coordination In A Diabetic Patient?

my mum has persistent fever with loss of coordination at times and an increase in blood sugar- yesterday, random blood sugar was 126mm but this morning fasting blood sugar was 140mm with fever. She is about 70 years old I gave her ciprofloxacin tablet yesterday and she still took one tablet again this morning.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Long standing diabetes causes lowering of immunity and in her case age too is also a factor. During any stressful condition(infection etc) the body responds by increasing the blood sugar and has to be managed as per sick day rule. In the background of reduced immunity at times these infection can get very severe, as in your case you said fever with loss of coordination, so might be there is some CNS infection. I would suggest you to get her examined by your local physician and get appropriate treatment.

Hope this helped. Do let us know.
