What Causes Persistent Headaches And Throat Pain Despite Taking Antibiotics?

One month ago had terrible sore throat like thorns in my throat and chills from then on I thought I had flu - sore throat, body aches, head ache. After 3 long weeks of illness I now have head pain and pain on my glands on side of throat. Have been to doctor 3 times. Last meds were arythromycin.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query symptoms such as persistent headaches and throat pain despite taking antibiotics is related to bacterial infection known as streptococcal pharyngitis. Headache can be caused by some precipitating or triggering factor. I would suggest you to take OTC analgesics such as Ibuprofen for relieve of head ache. Take antibiotic ciprofloxacin along with anti-inflammatory drug such as Levocetrizine. Avoid intake of cold carbonated beverages. Avoid taking oily, fried and spicy food. Gargle 3-4 times a day with saline water. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should go for blood and swab test as well to find out exact cause and start treatment accordingly.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
