What Causes Persistent Headaches?

I ve been having daily headaches for a month now. Originally it felt like a burning sore scalp in a patch in the back of my head that started daily between 3-6. Progressed to a headache on left side rear of head. It felt like I d been hit in the head again coming on around 3-6, now it s on the right side rear of head and right side near eye and it s starting when I wake up. My doctor did not know. He gave me an RX for inflammation. I ve been treating them with ibuprofen that dulls the pain enough. What s wrong with me?

Hi.

I have gone through your query. It sounds like you have a cluster migraine. This is usually seen with a pain that is being the eye and is on one side. The presentation of any headache or migraine is similar. There is a throbbing pain which appears with some trigger factors.

Usually, these trigger factors include bright lights, loud sounds, lack of sleep, or fatigue.

I suggest my patients to identify the trigger factor. This allows them to avoid it and prevent the migraine from starting.

Along with this, the following can help as well -
Taking a warm shower
Sitting in a dark room
Getting a lot of sleep
Steam inhalation

As you are already using painkillers, you may need more medication that is more suited to migraines. Since these medications require a prescription, I would suggest that you see your doctor to consider other higher level medications for it

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Vignan Rachabattuni
