What Causes Persistent Heart Palpitation?

Hi, My name is Rachel. I have pretty consistently been experiencing palpitations in my heart. My heart is usually at a slow healthy rate due to me being an athlete, but almost daily I experience the sensation of my heart beating out of my chest. I have been on an event monitor for a month and there were no signs of concerns for the doctors. I take concrete (54mg) each day and directly after I take the medication is when it seems to be the worst, or after a night of drinking my heart will often act like this all day. I feel as if there is something wrong but keep being reassured that there is not. What do you think it could be? or what can I do?

Hello,

You are suffering from persistent heart palpitations. You have been taking Concerta -54mg. Palpitations get worse after drinking and concerta-54mg. You are suggested not to take alcohol, it can make you more distracted & also trigger palpitations. Side effects of Concerta-54mg are fast heart beat, chest pain, joint pain, fever, skin rash, muscle cramps, unusual bleeding or bruising, etc.

You are suggested to consult your treating doctor who has prescribed you Concerta-54mg. Inform him about the symptoms you are experiencing so that he may taper the dose or replace it with another medicine that suits you better. You can get cardiac function tests, lipid profile done to detect any CAD, developing coronary artery disease. You will be treated accordingly. Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
