What Causes Persistent High Blood Pressure Levels?

My boyfriend has high blood pressure. he keeps going to his doctor and she keeps trying different medicines to keep it down and nothing is working. all she wants him to do is go to the hospital so they can figure it out. he has tried that but how long can you stay in there and medicine takes awhile before you see results. we are looking for a specific doctor maybe that works with this kind of problem. he is over weight and works 10 to 15 hours a day and very stressful. what would you suggest? thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The D.A.S.H diet is specifically designed to help persons with high blood pressure, he can try it to see if it has an effect. It is used along with medication, not on its own.
It may help with weight loss.

They would need to rule out secondary causes of high blood pressure such as abnormal levels of hormones such as thyroid hormone, cortisol etc.
The medication should have an effect within 3 days if it is going to work

He can see a high blood pressure specialist, there are doctors that specialize in this area.

I hope this helps
